Introduction of new national request form and sample collection guidelines for platelet and neutrophil testing

◄ Back to Transfusion News

From Monday 1 July 2019, we will  be introducing new national sample collection guidelines and two new forms which have been developed to facilitate a standard approach to requesting platelet and neutrophil testing/investigations.

The new National - Platelet and Neutrophil Sample Collection Guidelines document outlines the sample requirements for various investigations offered by the platelet and neutrophil reference laboratories in the Blood Service. This document outlines:

  • the sample requirements we need for different investigations
  • indicative turnaround time per investigation, and
  • any other relevant pre-investigation instructions.

The new National Platelet and Neutrophil Investigation Request Form should be completed and sent with any samples referred to the Blood Service National Platelet and Neutrophil Reference Laboratories for testing.

If the indication for testing is for foetal/neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT), the new FNAIT Clinical Information Form must also be completed.

The new guidelines and forms will be available from our website from Monday 1 July 2019. Find them here.
